Communications Project Manager

Overview

The Communications team at SFFILM is seeking a Project Manager to oversee the planning, execution, launch, and completion of various Festival marketing projects and campaigns for the 64th San Francisco International Film Festival (April 9–18, 2021).

The Communications Project Manager is the glue that keeps our people and projects together, ensuring high-quality materials are delivered on time and on budget. This seasonal position is responsible for fostering and driving significant cross-departmental collaboration, communication, and deadline setting. The Manager develops departmental workflows and schedules, keeping staff members on task and serving as the primary point of contact for other departments and external agencies, vendors, and partners. With a focus on design, advertising, branding, digital, and video, the Manager is a key creative contributor who works with a variety of stakeholders to shepherd projects from concept to completion.

This is a full-time temporary role from January 11 – April 16, 2021. While the role is mostly remote, Bay Area candidates are preferred. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis through Friday, December 11.

Responsibilities

  • Develops all marketing project plans and manages their day-to-day execution and delivery in coordination with other members of the Communications department as well as cross-functional teams and external creative agencies and vendors.
  • Creates and executes project plans, including deadlines, specs, assets, budget, vendor coordination, status updates, approvals, and final delivery.
  • Manages project budget, scope, schedule, and resources.
  • Project manages the development, production, and dissemination of creative materials (print, video, or digital) for SFFILM Festival.
  • Serves as the main point of contact for colleagues in other departments to ensure all of SFFILM’s creative materials needs are delivered by the Communications team in a timely manner.
  • Builds and tracks production schedules and workflows; communicate deadlines, tasks, priorities across the organization.
  • Collaborates with and manage designers, video editors, external agencies and vendors, and marketing and programming partners.
  • Adheres to creative and content briefs to keep staff and partners on track.
  • Coordinates and contributes to reviews of print, digital, video, and creative content; works with stakeholders on revisions and approvals.
  • Arranges printing and distribution of collateral; works with printers, mail houses, and other vendors.
  • Proofreads all materials and ensures compliance with SFFILM brand across all internal- and external-facing materials related to the Festival.
  • Serves as key strategic and creative partner for all Communications and Development colleagues and projects, collaborating across teams to build audience and member acquisition campaigns.
  • Assists with marketing-specific aspects of SFFILM event production.

Qualifications

  • Past experience in marketing project management or related field preferred but not required.
  • Demonstrated skills in planning, organizing and executing projects of varying complexity and delivering them within specified timeframes and budgets
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize multiple projects and manage results
  • Ability to anticipate changes, communicating promptly and efficiently and maintain flexibility
  • Experience with digital tools for content and project management including WordPress CMS, MailChimp, Basecamp, Google Apps, Outlook, FileMaker Pro, and social media platforms and tools.
  • Passion for movies and festivals is a plus!

Pay rate: $19 per hour, eligible for overtime pay
This position will be expected to work overtime leading up to the SFFILM Festival.

Festival Graphic Designer

Overview

The Communications team at SFFILM is seeking a hard-working and creative Festival Graphic Designer to assist in the creation of visual assets for the 64th San Francisco International Film Festival (April 9–18, 2021). The Festival Graphic Designer works closely with the Graphic Designer and Directors of Marketing and Communications to produce a wide array of media that advances the mission and brand of SFFILM through creative, strategic, and top-notch design.

This is a full-time temporary role from January 25 – April 9, 2021. While the role is fully remote, candidates in the Pacific Time Zone are preferred. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis through Friday, January 8.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design and creation of all print and digital assets for the 64th San Francisco International Film Festival.
  • Create materials for Festival events, from digital invitations to printed mini-programs.
  • Produce digital, print, and outdoor advertising, from full-page spreads in distributed publications to re-skins of national websites to billboards and transit advertising.
  • Create print and digital signage, from directional posters used in theater venues to onscreen slideshows projected before screenings.
  • Produce digital graphics and banners to be used on social media and in email communications.
  • Build mock-ups for Communications team members to better visualize and present projects to be tasked to external partners.
  • Create other print and digital collateral as needed, including pitch decks, brochures, flyers, and more.
  • Implement consistent brand identity across a diverse array of materials.
  • Manage multiple projects from concept to completion, adhering to strict deadlines.

Qualifications

  • 2-3 years of relevant professional experience.
  • A working understanding of layout, type, and color.
  • Proficiency in InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator (intermediate level or above).
  • Able to both take instructions and initiative.
  • Enthusiastic and passionate with an eye for detail.
  • Superior file management skills (tracking and archiving).
  • Hardworking and professional with a balanced temperament and good sense of humor.
  • Organized and deadline-driven team-player capable of picking up and applying new skills in a fast-paced environment.

Communications Intern

Overview

The Communications team at SFFILM is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented, and web-savvy individual to provide promotional support for its upcoming public programs, including the 2021 San Francisco International Film Festival. This is an excellent opportunity to gain marketing experience at a nonprofit arts organization and top-tier film festival, providing well-rounded exposure to the production of print and digital publications and social media as well as the communications strategies behind the organization’s events outreach. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who approaches a variety of communications tasks with a positive attitude and follow-through.

This is an unpaid fully remote internship from January 25 – April 16, 2021. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis through Friday January 8.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct administrative support to the Communications Coordinator, Project Manager, and Director of Marketing.
  • Aggregate and organize marketing assets for Festival and institutional programs (i.e., social media links to coverage of participating films).
  • Assist with the content management of select social media channels, especially the organization’s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Vimeo accounts as well as the SFFILM blog (Medium).
  • Perform data entry (FileMaker Pro), edit and format copy for the Festival website and program guide.
  • Edit images for web and print, working in Photoshop.
  • Conduct research and initiate contact with new community partners and potential distribution hubs.
  • Help to coordinate collateral distribution at Festival venues.
  • Provide production assistance and customer service at SFFILM events.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Extremely detail-oriented.
  • Ability to take both instruction and initiative while working with minimal supervision.
  • Superior communication skills, both orally and in writing.
  • Proficiency in FileMaker Pro, Photoshop, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel), Google apps.
  • Familiarity with HTML or proficient web publishing skills desired but not required. CMS is WordPress.
  • Experience with social media platforms an asset.
  • Professional and friendly demeanor. Interns represent SFFILM when speaking with customers and community members.
  • Demonstrated interest in contemporary film or arts & culture.
  • Minimum commitment of 8–12 hours per week (two or three days a week) and availability to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Familiarity with San Francisco Bay Area geography a plus.
  • Fluency in English required.

Doc Stories Overview

  • When is Doc Stories this year?

    Doc Stories will return November 3–8, 2022.

  • Is Doc Stories steaming or in-person?

    The 2022 Doc Stories program will feature a combination of both in-person screenings and streamed films.

  • When will the program be announced?

    We will announce the 2022 Doc Stories program on Wednesday, October 12.

  • What is the best way to see all the movies?

    The best way to attend Doc Stories is with a Cinevisa. This all-access pass includes all streaming content and admission to our in-person screenings.

Tickets

  • Can I check out as a guest?

    No. If you do not have an account with SFFILM, you will be asked to create one during the checkout process.

  • What does it mean if a show is AT RUSH?

    A show is AT RUSH when all advance tickets have sold out. Rush tickets may be available just before showtime, and sometimes as part of the daily Noon Ticket Release. At theaters, a rush line will form outside the venue 30–60 minutes before the screening starts. Once all ticket and pass holders are seated, any empty seats will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis to those in the rush line. We offer one ticket per person waiting in line at the time of admission.

    Some streaming films have audience capacity limits and may go to RUSH if that limit is reached. Check event pages for availability, and always get your tickets early to ensure you have a spot.

    Screenings at the Drive-In will have a RUSH line for vehicles, and tickets will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis to those in the RUSH line at showtime if space is available.

    Tickets may become available during our Daily Noon Ticket Releases. To find them, check the film’s event page daily, at noon. Newly-released tickets will be for sale there.

  • What is SFFILM’s cancellation policy?

    All orders are final. No refunds, exchanges, substitutions, or replacements will be issued.

  • Can the general public attend Doc Stories?

    Of course! Tickets to the 2022 Doc Stories program will be available for purchase to the general public on Thursday, October 13, and Ticket Packs are available now! Click here to purchase a Ticket 6-Pack.

  • What is a Ticket 6-Pack?

    Ticket Packs are vouchers that come in bundles of six and can be redeemed for screenings and events with a value of up to $25.

  • What is a Doc Stories Cinevisa?

    A Doc Stories Cinevisa is a pass that includes all streaming content and admission to our in-person screenings.

  • Will individual tickets be made available?

    Members: Tickets to the 2022 Doc Stories program will be available for purchase on Wednesday, October 12.
    General Public: Tickets to the 2022 Doc Stories program will be available for purchase on Thursday, October 13.

On September 15, 2020, SFFILM presented the George Gund III Craft of Cinema Award to philanthropist and activist Agnes Gund. The presentation included an online conversation with Agnes Gund and Catherine Gund, director of the documentary Aggie, with moderators Rajendra Roy (SFMOMA’s Chief Curator of Film) and Garrett Bradley (director of Time).
